How to Get Started and Become an Online Notary in Florida

To do online notarization in house your company will need to engage a remote online notary “RON” service provider and each of your online notary employees will need their own signing certificate (x.509 tamper evident certificate). This post will help you get started using Notary.io as your company’s RON service provider. We will also outline your state’s requirements for traditional notaries to become remote online notaries.

  1. Click a “Sign Up” button anywhere on the Notary.io website to create a Notary.io account for your business.
  2. Follow the instructions on the Create Account page and submit the required information for your company. As the administrative user or “owner” of the account you may now begin using settings in your company account including inviting other online notary employees to the account.
  3. You may want to read the FAQs on the website or seek assistance from the Help Desk before creating your account or undertaking administrative tasks.
  4. If you need personal assistance in the creation of your company account and administrative user training you can schedule an appointment here: https://notaryio.zohobookings.com/#/4203687000005099002
  5. Contact support@notary.io for our new online notary form and ask each of your online notary employees to complete it and return to support@notary.io. We will work with each new online notary to provide their 2-year signing certificate (x.509 tamper evident certificate). Your company will be invoiced for the signing certificates.
  6. Schedule a time for training one or more online notaries in your company here: https://notaryio.zohobookings.com/#/customer/4203687000000078046

To become an Online Notary Public in Florida you will need to have an active commission as a Notary Public. Before you can file your application you will need to take an approved online notary training course – the various approved courses can be found here: https://dos.fl.gov/sunbiz/other-services/notaries/remote-online-notary-public-education-providers/ . Here is the list of items you will need to provide to the Florida Department of State by mail:

• Completed application form notarized by a FL notary – form: DOC IN-7
• Copy of your $25,000 bond (remember you do NOT need a new bond as long as your traditional bond meets the $25,000 threshold)
• Copy of your $25,000 E&O policy
• Copy of Your commission or appointment as a Notary Public
• Copy of your Online Training Certificate from an approved course
• Complete the DC-DOS-50 Form and email to NotariesCorpHelp@DOS.MyFlorida.com (Do NOT list Notary.io as a secure repository of your notary journal. Notaries on our platform only store their journals on the platform but remain individually responsible for control of and access to the information in their journal. This form has been pre-filled out for you, just finish your personal information, add an effective date, sign and date), you may also want to include a copy of this within your paper application.
• $10 check made payable to the Florida Department of State.
• Mail via USPS to: P.O. Box 6327, Tallahassee, FL 32314
